Father Philip S. Majka, our beloved “Duszpasterz Polski” peacefully passed away on Saturday evening, June 24, 2023, at the Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, VA. Father Majka generously and graciously served the Polonia of the Washington metropolitan area, and beyond, since his Ordination to the Priesthood on May 1, 1965. With thankfulness for the blessing Father Majka was in our lives, we now pray for the repose of Father’s soul. Father Majka was a Board Member and supporter of our chapter. A note from Ray Glembocki following the memorial service: Father was asked what he wanted as part of his funeral, and he replied, “A church full of his friends.”
Well, he got that and more: The church was full of his friends; There were 35 priests; Two bishops, Michael Burbidge and Paul Loverde; and A letter from the Papal Nuncio Christophe Pierre thanking him for assisting church travelers in their arrival at Dulles Airport where he was the Catholic Chaplain.
Cardinal Ratzinger said at John Paul’s funeral, “I believe John Paul is in his father’s house smiling.” With the above participating in his funeral, I believe that Fr. Majka was in his father’s house smiling.
I also believe he was greeted with “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
