Our chapter Members have an opportunity to continue a beautiful tradition of having a Mass celebrated at the Saint John Paul II altar in the Vatican. Many of us like to remember our family members who have passed with a memorial Mass. They also want to have a Mass said for special occasions.
Your mass intentions are said at the altar of Pope St. John Paul II, which is pictured. It is only fitting for us to share the altar where St. John Paul’s body is laid to rest, in St Peter’s Basílica, in the Chapel of St Sebastian, next to the home of Pietà by Michelangelo. Pope John Paul II was the second-longest-serving pope, serving from 16 October 1978 until his death on 2 April 2005. The Latin inscription on the altar reads: Sanctus, Joannes Paulus PP. II. The “P.P.” stands for “Pope and Pontiff.”
